Reckless

We were on our way to the Mother & Baby expo. “Thought it would be fun” you said.
You were 8 and a half months pregnant. We are in Pitt street trying to figure out how to get there when I sketchy homeless junkie starts harassing two old ladies near us.

“Give us you money”
“We don’t have any, sorry.”
“Well Im going to follow you until you have to use money and then you’ll be sorry. Give me your coffee.”

The lady hands over her cup of coffee.

I could feel you getting angry and upset, knew that old ladies and gender based violence are two of your causes.

“I think you should go away. They are obviously not interested in talking to you.” You stand between the old ladies and the junkie. Even he looks surprised when he looks at you huge belly. I feel upset and angry that you are so reckless with our baby.

“You’re pregnant!” says one of the old ladies.

When we got to the expo we ran into an old friend of yours, a french bird who you lived with at Jewish college. "Island Girl, what synchronicity! Fancy running into you here…"

"Salut Caitlin! I guess everyone is just at that stage of their life…"
